Knurr 2U Rack Fan Tray — 4-Fan Airflow Management

The Knurr 2U Rack Fan Tray, manufactured by Extron, integrates four variable-speed 120 mm brushless DC fans into a standard 19" × 2U (88.9 mm H) steel sheet housing, engineered to actively exhaust heat from server rack enclosures where passive perforation alone is insufficient for high-density thermal loads. When your rack’s perforated doors can’t keep up with the heat output of fully populated 1U servers, this fan tray provides the active airflow management needed to maintain safe operating temperatures.

High-Performance Airflow

The four brushless DC fans generate up to 4 × 180 CFM of airflow at maximum speed, with a combined acoustical output of ≤ 48 dB(A) at 1 m — delivering meaningful thermal relief without creating an unacceptable noise environment in open data halls or co-location facilities. Variable speed control allows operators to balance airflow against acoustics based on actual thermal load.

Simple Integration

The tray mounts in any standard IEC 60297-2 rack position and operates at 12 V DC supplied via an internal IEC C14 inlet connected to any in-rack PDU — no dedicated power supply required. A front-mounted speed controller potentiometer provides manual airflow adjustment, and the replaceable dust filter protects fan bearings and downstream equipment from particulate contamination.
